Dr. William H. Hopkins Addendum Collection 1919-1939

The Hopkins Addendum Collection consists of 1551 original negatives taken between 1918 and 1939 from southern and northern Utah by Dr. William H. Hopkins. Southern Utah images include Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks, Cedar Breaks National Monument, Monument Valley, Tuba City (AZ), St. George, Ruby's Inn at Bryce Canyon, and Dixie National Forest. Other images in the collection include Salt Lake City and Provo, Wasatch Mountain Club hikes, Bear Lake, ski jumping, downhill skiing in Brighton and Bingham.

Although the Wasatch Mountain Club was formally incorporated on 13 May 1920, it was informally organized earlier, sometime in August of 1913. The seven original participants are said to have met in the mountains, on various trails near Salt Lake City. Soon, women were present on the outings, and before the club was formally organized, it had sponsored hiking and skiing trips, built a ski jump, and helped to rediscover Timpanogos Cave and preserve it from mining interests.
